I understand how to better support students in the classroom. For example, before the course I would repeat my requests to the student and accuse them of not listening but after the course I learnt that it is important to get their attention using their name first and also use visual tools to support learning.

This MUST be embedded in the curriculum, as part of PGCE and delivered as CPD! This is a whole school approach and all teachers should follow this practice.

*This is an accredited course and so you will need to actively engage with the training and complete a learning log. To do this you should expect to set aside around 4½ hours weekly.

This will include:

  • 1 to 1½ hours to complete the online session and prepare observations etc. for the live webinar
  • 1 hour to attend the live webinar
  • 1½-2 hours to plan, implement knowledge and strategies learnt and write-up the plan, observations and evaluation in an online e-log

Let's Talk courses for parents and carers

If you achieve a level 3 qualification in Speech and Language Support for 11-16s, you can train to deliver Let's Talk with 10-14s to parents and carers of children with speech and language needs in your school. Following a one-day course, you'll be qualified as a Let's Talk Tutor, able to cascade the Let's Talk course under licence.

Communication Friendly Settings (CFS)

Speech and Language Support for 11-16s is an essential first step for your school to achieve Communication Friendly Setting status. If you are a TA, you need to complete the level 3 qualification; if you are a teacher, then you can access the non-accredited e-learning sessions, which will prepare you to complete a level 4 learning log at the next stage.
