Some of you have completed or are coming to the end of your involvement in the Hereford Early Years Workforce Development: Speech and Language Support project.

Along time ago you completed a pre-project questionnaire. Now it is really important to gather your views about taking part. We want to hear your views and your suggestions and ideas about how you might like to continue to develop your skills and knowledge within the field of supporting young children with their speech, language and communication.

We would really appreciate your help in returning your views and feedback.

Toolkit: 'Support your child's speech, language and communication'

As part of the project, Elklan has worked with local practitioners to develop online Toolkits of information for both parents and carers and practitioners. There is lots of useful information for parents and practitioners, so do visit and let everyone know about it!

The Toolkits can be found here:

We are hoping to develop the Toolkits further in the last few months of our involvement in Herefordshire and would love your comments to help us to do this, if you are able to provide your views please complete this very short survey:

Communication Friendly Settings - Early Years

Those who have completed have given some wonderful feedback:

I found the course very inspiring and eye opening. It really made me, and the rest of the team, reflect on the way we encouraged good communication in the setting. Changing the way that we created our display boards and on a personal level, giving each child more thinking time to respond to my question/comment. I feel that I have truly benefited from the course and that in turn the children in my care have done so also.
Even though we had the challenges of a pandemic the setting has taken the course sessions on board and it has been noted how staff have engaged what has been discussed and learnt in their everyday role. The Communication Friendly Setting course is a great way to get together as a team and discuss the importance of language development of children.
Working as a team has built my confidence as well as my knowledge of ideas and important areas to consider when supporting children's language.
I really enjoyed this training I was able to see the benefits to children's development straight away
I enjoyed the course as it’s allowed our setting to be more communication friendly and help to improve our relationships with parents. It’s allowed children to communicate more freely and learn new words using the flower charts that we have in place.
This is a very useful course, it helps you re evaluate your practise and by having the support of your work colleagues, you can put ideas forward and work together to improve.
