I have learned that not one size fits all and the strategies can be adapted accordingly. I have also learned how important it is to listen to the pupil voice. Many of our vulnerable young children just want to be respected and heard. Primary school children often struggle to communicate their emotions and feelings as they know how they feel but find it difficult to explain. I have been given lots of strategies which I now feel I can use in my everyday work to support the vulnerable young people.

I will be recommending the course to many of the schools I work with.

The tutor shows a lot of passion and appeared very knowledgeable in this area. The course has made me reflect on my 1-1 work with young people and how it can be improved on to better meet my young people's speech and language needs

I have learned to use a lot more visual aids to help understanding, to check full understanding and where necessary use word maps and comic strip conversations. [This has] resulted in better rapport and more information being discussed.
