Whole-school training and accreditation for primary schools
Elklan Communication Friendly Setting (CFSe) accreditation is awarded to settings that have trained and support all their staff in communication and language development. Evidence of embedding is demonstrated through all staff completing short questionnaires which are collated automatically on our website. It couldn't be easier!
A minimum of two TAs and two teachers, one of whom we recommend is the SENCo or on the senior leadership team, complete Speech and Language Support for 5-11s. The two TAs must achieve accreditation at level 3. The two teachers can complete Elklan non-accredited e-learning sessions and corresponding knowledge quizzes.
The two or more teachers who completed Speech and Language Support for 5-11s, equipped by an Elklan tutor, will go on to train all the staff in your setting using our course Communication Counts. They are known as Lead Communication Practitioners (LCPs).
The LCP delivers five one-hour-long sessions to ALL staff in your school. Evidence of embedding the stategies will be confimed by a visit from a neighbouring CFSe school or an Elklan Tutor at the end of the programme.
Accreditation can be achieved in one year and can be renewed after three years. It is the most cost-effective strategy available for whole-setting capacity building in communication.
We'd welcome an opportunity to talk with you about how your setting can become Elklan Communication Friendly.

Communication Counts is a course written by us which your Lead Communication Practitioners deliver to all the staff in your setting, including lunchtime supervisors, administrative and ancillary staff, in fact, anyone involved in speaking with the children! We provide the teaching notes, mentoring and resources to facilitate this and support LCPs to achieve level 4 accreditation. Your LCP won’t attend another course but will analyse the embedding of the training in your setting and evaluate the impact on staff practices and pupil learning.
The five sessions cover:
