Elklan's CFS Primary course facilitates staff who have completed Elklan’s Speech and Language Support for 5-11s course to cascade essential knowledge and practical support strategies they have learnt to the rest of the staff within your school. By completing CFS, the whole setting receives an accredited award and will become an environment which supports the communication and language development of all pupils.
Stages of the programme

1x SENCO, 1x Teacher and 2x TAs complete SLS 5-11s, TAs achieve a Level 3 accreditation.

LCPs cascade training to all staff, support the team and achieve Level 4 accreditation.
The cascade takes place through 5x one-hour sessions.
Audit & Accreditation
CFS status is awarded.
Accredited by Elklan and OCN London.
Communication Counts is a course which has been written by Elklan and is delivered by the Lead Communication Practitioners to the rest of the staff in your school. The course is made up of the key information and strategies from the 10-week Speech and Language Support for 5-11s course delivered in 5x one-hour bitesize sessions. Each session has been tailored to be simple to deliver for the LCPs and easy to implement by the staff. Elklan provides all of the resources for the cascade of Communication Counts and the LCPs are supported by an experienced Elklan Tutor throughout this process.
5 Communication Counts sessions:
What is communication?
CFS, adult-child interaction and supporting receptive language
Asking effective questions
Encouraging expressive language and narrative development
After each Communication Counts session, the staff complete a brief questionnaire on how effective the cascaded methods and strategies have been when used with the pupils that they work with. This helps to embed the knowledge that is being shared by placing emphasis on deploying Elklan methods into the staff's interactions with pupils. The data from the questionnaires is summarised in concise reports giving a measure of the impact of the CFS programme on your school.
Completion & Accreditation
Once the Communication Counts course has been delivered, and the Challenge Questionnaires completed the Final Audit will take place to assess the changes that have taken place in your school. Upon successful completion of the Audit the LCPs will receive Level 4 qualifications and your entire school is awarded with a whole school accreditation and receives 'Communication Friendly' status. CFS status lasts for 3 years before it then needs to be renewed.

In recent years we have noticed in our cohorts an increasing need for specialised speech and language support. We have used Elklan training for 4 years now and have recently begun on the pathway to becoming a communication friendly setting. This is something we are very excited about as a school. The training provided by Elklan is relevant and easily accessible for both teachers and support staff and provides a lot of methods and techniques which can be implemented for interventions and classroom learning. The trainers at Elklan are excellent, highly knowledgeable and are available to support those taking the course in completing their coursework and can also give practical advice and guidance on working with specific children. This is the best training I have been on and am now looking forward to sharing this with my whole school as we become a CFS.
