Makaton Safeguarding Workshop

Makaton Safeguarding Workshop

Makaton Safeguarding Workshop

A workshop to support professionals and carers of children and adults with severe communication and learning disabilities

About the workshop

This unique and thought-provoking workshop aims to explain Makaton approaches to Safeguarding, how they link with existing safeguarding practices; demonstrates how Makaton can be personalised and used at different levels of complexity to meet individual needs and develops a ‘Safeguarding through Makaton’ plan for implementation in your own setting. You will learn approximately 300 signs, only 60 of these are from the Core Vocabulary.

The workshop will be delivered in four modules, each lasting four hours. You must attend all four modules to complete this Workshop.

The signs and symbols cover several topics:

• People: family and people around us
• Body parts and clothes
• Places
• Feelings, thoughts and behaviours
• Bullying and abuse, from pulling hair to verbal, physical and sexual abuse
• Sexual behaviour and intimate body parts

Our Makaton Tutor Saskia Dady says, “As a Speech & Language Therapist, I cannot rate this workshop highly enough. It's a different way of looking at Safeguarding and is relevant to everybody.”

You'll receive:

A Safeguarding workshop manual which includes the signs, symbols and course activities

A Certificate of Attendance

Please note: Please remember to keep your course certificate safe. You may need this to attend further training.
