Kings' Schools, Dubai

Kings' School, Dubai

The three fee-paying Kings’ Schools teach the English curriculum to around 3,500 pupils aged 3-18. There are more than 70 different nationalities and for many of the children, English is not their first language.

Jaspreet Bumbra works as a speech and language therapist across the three schools. After qualifying as an Elklan tutor in London, she’s trained colleagues in all of them. Kings’ School at Nad Al Sheba, with 370 primary students, achieved Elklan’s Communication Friendly Setting accreditation in 2019.

As someone looking at children’s inclusion in early and primary years, I’d definitely say the Elklan training is very worthwhile. Our schools are developing a culture where communication is seen as a priority for all children.

The training is pitched at the right level and easy for the teachers to digest. There have been lots of positives and good feedback from staff. Schools have really taken to it and there have been some quick wins – such as the increased use of mind maps and a greater focus on listening.

For private schools, it’s also important to stress how Elklan offers real value for money. We’re developing in-house skills and capacity in a sustainable way, reducing the need to buy in other more expensive support
